Each supervisor/tutor of a doctoral thesis will agree a programme of activities with the student during the production of the thesis. The activities will be out together annu8ally in a "Training needs document".
Exceptionally, and according to previous education and training, it may be considered necessary to take up to 30 credits of complementary courses, which should include research credits, where necessary.
The programme also contemplates the inclusion of the following activities:
- Tutorials with the supervisors
- Research seminar: conferences given by lecturers and researchers of recognised prestige, theoretical-practical discussion workshops etc.
- Teaching skills seminar: activities to prepare students for teaching activities
- Research management skills seminar: activities to prepare students for a range of management activities (research grant applications, project management, team management, monitoring reports, policies for diffusion, etc.)
The Doctorate in Social Psychology follows a structured format, first in the assessment of an effective thesis project and then in the assessment of annual progress reports. A team of teaching staff is responsible for student assessment on both of these occasions and is required to produce a report.
The assessment team is made up of four people: three research professors, one external to the Department, and the student's tutor. The team will be coordinated by the most experienced professor.
Assessment of the thesis project takes place approximately six months after the start of the programme (twelve months for part time students). The monitoring reports are produced following annual registration and the final report is produced before the thesis is deposited.
According to the reports, the doctorate programme committee may recommend to the Postgraduate Subcommittee that the student should not continue on the doctoral programme.
